How to create landclass?

I have an airfield on wich I have create several VTP2 polygones and they are shown in the FS ok. Now I try to change the landclass for the same area. I click the Land button and the Land Classes Properties windows is shown. The mode is set to "Insert on Click". Then I click on a texture in the list, which is selected. After that I click on the map and get following message:
This Point is outside the Area Coverage ofr LandClasses!
What is the correct way of changing/setting the landclass?
