Request - Change Multiple Items At One Go

Post by boleyd » Tue Mar 01, 2005 7:42 pm

Sorry if I made this request before...

Databases such as ESRI/Tiger shape files usually have many segments for shorelines. It is sometimes desirable to change their format (size/visual graphic) for some parts of a scenery. It would be nice to select all of the items that are going to be changed and then be able to make changes to all of them at one time. As an example varying the width of a shoreline that has many segments, some only a few meters long.

Dick,

You can do changes on "One" item or on "Many" items. Here is how you do it on "Many" Lines:

1. Go to Line mode
2. Select the lines you want. You can add new items to the selected set by holding down the shift key while you click on a new line. You can use the selecting window (hold the CNTL key). Or you can select many items with the Find function (example keyword VTP on line type)
3. Then right click one (just one) item as if you going to set the properties.
4a. For a global change of Width just press Change and Cancel (if you press OK the items will become of type None)
4b. For a global change of type (with or without change of width) set your paramters and press OK.

Regards, Luis

Hello,
A small Tipp:
When you not drawing the line yourself, try: join the lines!
The segments (sometimes only i.e. 3 points), will give you sometimes strange lines! (not Luis fault!)
Maybe better:
Import the lines, join the lines, and then do your individual adjustment (using: break the line)

Kind regards
Horst
