Luis,
I have had great success in using calbrated background bmps for placing objects. I generate the background bmps along with a calibration file from my gps software, ExpertGPS. The resulting image and calibration file registers perfectly.
What is the normal convention for storing the bmps, the projects, and the calibration files so that Sbuilder will always remember the setup? Should everything be in the tools/work folder? Thank you for your patience. I am brand new to using Sbuilder and trying to figure it out as I go.
Setup for background images
Hi,
I do not know ExpertGPS. Is it a free tool? If so could you point it out to me?
For the bitmaps - the first thing that I do when I calibrate a bitmap in SBuilder is to generate a "data file" (look into the properties of the map). That means that I do not need to save or export a project to reuse the bitmap. I you "add a map" and if the the "data file" exists, the map automatically calibrates itself. The map (bitmap file) and the data (txt file with same base name) should exist in the same folder. It can be any folder.

ExpertGPS is not free but there is a freeware package EasyGPS that might do most of what it does. All of them are at http://www.topografix.com/ and Easygps is at http://www.easygps.com/default.asp
