Run Time errors

Post by rbrown3rd » Sat Mar 12, 2005 2:05 am

Luis,
My friend Joe Watson just registered Sbuilder but he is getting runtime errors after installing and properly registering the software. Any suggestions?

Bob

I'm Joe watson and it runs 202 fine. If I update to the 2.4 version I get a Run Time error 9 and it stops. I can't open Bobs files with the 202 version. He says he has 205 but I don't see that as avaliable
It has been registered.

More info. He can run 2.02 SB fine. I created a project in 2.05 and sent him the SBX and project files. I thought he could upgrade SB and open them. That is where the trouble started.

I put that in and got a Run Time Error ( first click.
I'm back to 2.02 now and it opens. I just can't open Bobs files because they are done in v 2.05... I did download and install the VBRUN 6.0 SP5 ( I think thats what it was ).
I have spent the entire day (6 hours)on this program and it won't let me join Bob And Scott.

Hello Joe,

I am sorry for your frustation but I try to do my best. As I wrote you earlier today, if you can run SBuilder 2.02, the update is simply a replacement of 2 files. See the sticky topic for a link to download my fresh copy of SBuilder. As far as I can tell the reported bugs have been dealt with.

SBuilder is in permanent evolution and many users help me in testing what I add. Sometimes things go wrong.

I hope you are reading your friends files by now.

Luis

I'm not sure but I believe you have 2.04 (sbxxx.zip)in the update sticky thread and 2.05 (sbyyy.zip) in the tilted planes thread.

Got em..installed em..... get the run time error on both 2.04 and 2.05 .... 2.02 run.. havent compiled anything yet.
Why not I uninstall and re install a whole v 2.05.... Is there such a thing?

We know you are in bed by now Luis. Just want to thank you for your support. We still have not resolved Joe's issue. He can run 2.02 but when he does the upgrade to 2.05 via sbyyy.zip and tries to open it he still gets the run time error. We are shutting down on this problem for now but hopefully can get it resolved on another day. Thank you for your quick replies and efforts to help us.

I can recreate your error message when I change back to my original \tools\objects.txt file for 2.02. Both the old and new are the same size (34KB). Is it possible that you didn't place the new one in the \tools directory?

Hi,

I am not in bed! [:)] and I work until very late in the morning!
Joe: are you placing the new OBJECTS.TXT in the Tools folder?

There is no full 2.05 install, but you only need to replace the EXE (Sbuilder.exe) and place the new OBJECTS.TXT "killing" the old one.

I will be listening your efforts!

Hello,
Can not understand exactly the problem?
Joe:
Is Sbuilder not running, or the files (sbx) you are changing?

Kind regards
Horst

I believe Joe may have gone to bed but if I may answer a bit for him since we were communicating on this today I will do so. Joe installed version 2.02 and then decided to register it. Scott Gridley and I have been working on some projects and had migrated them forward to SB2.05. When we tried to share them with Joe, using either the project file or the SBX file Joe could not read them since he was using an older version of SBuilder than Scott and I. Upon getting the message that Sbuilder could not open the project files we all thought it would be a simple matter of upgrading his SB2.02 to the latest SB2.05 thereby allowing the project files to be opened. After Joe replaced his Sbuilder.exe and objects.txt he started getting the runtime error. I am wondering if it might have something to do with a wrong version of the objects.txt file? Scott had decompiled some default objects into his objects.txt file and I think I used some of them on my project that we are attempting to share. Does this sound like a possibility? If that is the case then Joe needs to install the version of ojbects.txt that I used to create the project file initially. I am just trying to think openly about this issue to come to a solution.

Thank you all for your ideas and suggestions.

Bob

Hi,

I think objects.txt need not to be the same. You can test. Here some tips:

Run your 2.05, Press New, and with the mouse make some simple files:

- one with just a VTP line nothing more
- one with 1 or 2 objects

If Joe opens the first one and not the second one, then the problem could be in objects.txt

If Jose can not open any (then send the simple files to me as well because Joe will have the same Sbuilder as me), may be, Joe could clean everything, make a fresh install of 2.02 followed by the update to 2.05.

Tomorrow afternoon I will be here hoping for a solution.

Regards, Luis
