Hi Res Textures - status?

Luis,
Any word on your progress with the higher resolution textures? If the airport (afcad stuff) remains a problem the ability to improve other areas would be valuable. Has Microsoft sent men in long black leather coats to you because you discovered their secret?

Hi Dick,

There is nothing new and you can do the following for an airport:

- add an alpha to the high resolution bitmap in such a way that the runway (and taxiways) are completely transparent. Do a low pass filter of this alpha plane so that the transition from opaque to transparent is progressive.

- place the bitmap in SBuilder and create both the VTP and the high resolution. Also take notice on the SBuilder display about the lat/lon of the 2 extremes of the runway.

- calculate in a Excel sheet the lat/lon of the center of the runway, its lenght and its true heading

- with these values create the runway using AFCAD.

I think this should produce acceptable results. For areas without runways this "transparent hole" is not needed.
