First: thank you Sia that we can use this wonderful SBuilderX! I have years ago created (for myself) some wonderful photoreal sceneries.
I have two questions: at that time we were able to use not only GoogleServer, but others to find tiles, but it seems that now we can use only GoogleServer, am I right?
If I look at the island of Tetiaroa near Tahiti, if I download tiles with SBuilderX, the picture I get is not clean, I mean, it has overlapping patches which look aweful. It's not fit to make a scenery which looks nice. When I on the contrary look at Tetiaroa on Google Maps, I find a crystal clear picture which would be perfect for an FSX scenery. Can anyone enlighten me? Would it be possible to use this picture from Google Maps for FSX?

Hello,

The images in Google Maps are probably more recent and of better quality than those that Google makes available for downloading.

You can probably use a screenshot of Google Maps if you know the coordinates of the image's corners. With that information, import the image into SbuilderX and calibrate it.

Best regards.

Thank you very much Luis, sorry I called you Sia.
That we possibly can use a screenshot is perfect news!
I followed a tutorial of a developer called Tiberius Kowalski. He is able to download LOD level 17. The best I can get is level 12 or maybe 13. This is absoltely no value. What could be hampering me? Internet speed? Is that a possible factor? I really would like to create beautiful scenery. There are sooooooo many beautiful islands on our planet and I would like to go and get them and put them in FSX. I thank you in adavance for your help!

Dear Luis,
something just pops up in my head: I would like to tell you that I am eternally grateful and thankful to you for having given us this amazing little software called SBuilderX! We might bother you very often with questions, but we would all like to use your machine to its best. Thank you!

I really don't know how the Google Maps server works, but I think they keep their latest images for the Maps/Earth applications. Luis Sá, the creator of SBuilder and SBuilderX, could only access a server where Google keeps older images.

Why can you only get low resolution images in some areas? Perhaps there are no high resolution images available. Each country does its own imagery to the resolution it wants or can afford. Google then licences whatever they can find.

Where I live, there are good resolution images in the city, but out in the countryside where my house is, the images are of much lower resolution.

Best regards.

Hi, where do you find the latest GoogleServer dlls? I use GoogleServer also for SAS.Planet. Check that out, you'll be surprised!

Google probably has a web site for third-party developers where they can find much information of all sorts. As usual, a Google search will most likely find this.-

Dick Ludowise, (rhumbaflappy), has very kindly kept the Google server dll up to date. Thanks, Dick!

Best regards.

This is a different type of access for Google tiles, that does not need updating. The tiles will always be Google's current set:

GoogleServer_api3.zip

Try the Tiles folder in the SBuilder directory.

Hi all,

Thanks to all of the contributors up to now!

I am trying to use SBuilderX (on Windows 10) and Google Maps satellite doesnt seem to work - I have tried installing the tiles provided by Dick a few posts up but even that does not work. I click View Background but it's white except for when fully zoomed out. Any ideas?

A new useful tile server. Global Surface Water is a project from the European Commission's Joint Research Centre:

https://global-surface-water.appspot.com/

The tiles only are good to Level 12, but present a very good compilation of the world's surface water.
