got my background, went and did my tif blend. compiled- went to scenery and found some buildings had bright red splotches on them.
Took my bmp to my paint program and painted white over the red spots. redid all.... I made things worse!
redid everything again but this time I avoided anything that looked white with my white brush while doing blend mask.
Problem solved.
it seems that if you have something pure white in the background (bmp), it will turn red (or parts of it) if you cover it with white. ergo- white on white.
Why does this happen?: how can I avoid this without doing what I did above?

Please read:
Make photo-real ground textures in Flight Simulator X
available in the Avsim library
http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?Ca ... LID=140539
This is discussed in that document.
Also, edit the source image first, select all pure white pixels (RGB=255,255,255), and slightly change the brightness or hue a little bit so that they are no longer pure white.
Best regards.
