Autogen Exclude photoscenery

Hi, I have created some photoscenery in SbuilderX and used autogen annotator to create autogen forest for the area. The problem is that although I have not selected autogen to cover the airport runway and grass and rivers, I can't stop trees from spilling over onto these areas. I have made autogen exclude poly's for the areas and set them at the same altitude as surrounding terrain but it doesn't seem to work. Also tried the same in ADE but that didn't work either. Also tried amending FSX.cfg to make the autogen placement more accurate but that didn't help much. What am I doing wrong? Any help appreciated.
Thanks,
Nick

Hello Nick,

This is an interesting problem.

Do you have any other scenery for the area that is creating a conflict?

Did you select the appropriate autogen exclusion (vector exclusion) for the airport surface?

Best regards.
Luis

Hi Luis, thanks for your reply. I have openVFR scenery for the area but when I delete it from the scenery library I still have the same problem.
In SbuilderX I selected AB Flatten exlude autogen for the airport grounds and river. The autogen was made with autogen annotator on top of the photoscenery.
The autogen is in the areas that I made, it just spills over the edges and the airstrip is so narrow that there are trees on the runway. I really wanted to the autogen to go to the edge of the shapes I made in annotator and I thought an exclude polygon would help solve this, but it won't work.
Any other ideas would be welcome.
Thanks,
Nick

Autogen placement in FS X is a little quirky. You already tried modifying the cfg file and I suppose that you could continue trying to make this parameter more precise, but there is an important performance penalty, and the cfg modification would need to be done on every user's file.

I distinctly remember that autogen exclusion was buggy during beta testing (I filed the bug report  ) particularly regarding certain types of trees. Perhaps there are still small bugs, especially for small exclusion areas.

You could try making your forest annotations smaller, that is, pull them back from the runway, then you could fill in the gaps up to the runway by placing the trees individually as objects. It's a little more work, but it could give you the effect you want.

Best regards.
Luis

Hi Luis, thanks for your help. There must be something else wrong as it doesn't work in ADE either. I'll try and figure it out but I might resort to doing what you suggested.
thanks,
Nick

I've never tried to exclude photo based autogen, so only want to comment that any exclusions made would need to be in a scenery layer higher in priority. So it cannot sit in the same folder as the photo work or a lower level folder.

Hi Lance, I tried that but still no luck. The scenery design bgls are in the project scenery folder and the autogen agn files in the project texture folder. I have placed the autogen exclude cvx_bgl in the addon scenery/scenery folder which is the on top of the project folder in the scenery library but it still no joy.
thanks anyway,
regards,
Nick

It's definitely the annotated autogen that isn't being affected, I made other exclusion polys outside the photoscenery area which worked fine and others in the middle of the annotated area that didn't work, so what is it about the annotated agn files that wont let them be excluded?

Just found out annotated autogen cannot be excluded, will have to find a work around.

Another problem. I have resampled my bgl and for some reason the bgl isn't working at all now, shows nothing in fsx. all the files are in the same format as they were. The only difference is I get an error saying, unknown field with tag 377224, for both tiff's (masks). And the resample tool runs a lot slower. Does anyone have any ideas as to what this might be?

No idea what that code means, so I "Googled" it. It seems to have something to do with the TIFF.

Are your TIFF files compressed by chance? There is one type of compression that is troublesome, don't remember which, but I mentioned this in one of the scenery tutorials.

Of course, it could be something else altogether. Have you modified those files recently?

Best regards.
Luis

Thanks Luis, it worked. I saved the Tiff uncompressed in photoshop, then resaved it in Irfanview. And resampled without a problem. Strangely Photoshop worked before with LZW compression. All works now.
Thanks for your help,

Nick
