Question about background image

I have a problem. Airport I'm trying to do is diagonal to north/south orientation (Rwy 12-30) and pretty long. Since I can only do a rectangle when selecting an area for background image it's about 3 times bigger than it needs to be since a lot of not needed surrounding area is also selected within the rectangle. Any workaround for that? When I do an alpha channel and mask it out the whole image will still probably be compiled in BGL even though 2/3 is not visible?

Workaround would be an odd name, IMO. GIS data works on a rectangular basis. But if you feel one large rectangle is not suitable, then the alternative would be to utilize multiple, smaller files. Then you could compile using a Multisource INF file. The blank or void areas would take up much less space than a larger blendmasked area.
