Why do I not have the permission to post and read on this forum? What did I do wrong?
I'm having runtime errors with the new version.

You may need the Windows update for .NET 4.5.1:

Note that the SBuilderX314 is not for WindowsXP, or for the 32-bit versions of Windows.

I'm running Win 7 64 Home. FSX is running in DX10 mode.

Hi Dick:

I'm not a programmer, but I'm curious if dependencies on "Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1" in SBuilderX314 might cause incompatibilities with existing and new add-on gauges and modules created for FSX, ...in light of these reported issues: :?:

Hi Gary.

I don't believe Luis or I have Windows8. But that issue seems to be resolved by either a system reboot, or by reinstalling the .NET 4.5.1 runtimes. And this compatibility problem, if it exists, has no effect on SBuilderX3.14. The only issue is if 4.5.1 messes with someone's system.

The new DLLs for 3.14 are 64-bit. I believe some of these DLLs are simply 'reset' for 64-bit, rather than recompiled. They should still work. I believe Joe's problem with 3.14 is due to .NET 4.5.1 not being present on his system. We had Windows8 users testing the program, and we found no issues.

SBuilderX3.14 64-bit requires the .NET 4.5.1 runtimes ( which should be part of a Microsoft update for Windows7 and 8 ). The program shoulldn't work under WindowsXP, as the 4.5.1 update was never for that system. I do have an x86 version of the 3.14, but I wouldn't think XP users would need it, as 3.13 should work just fine.

I think there is also a config file that is required by 3.14 that was not needed in 3.13... so maybe that is the issue.

Hi Joe.

I think I have the answer. I can get the same error popup if I try to run the old x86 SBuilderX with the new x64 DLLs. Make sure you are running the new SBuilderX. If you are running from a shortcut, it may refer to the old program.

I have reset Joe's permissions - no idea why he could not read or post. Hope it works.

Best regards.

I'm still having runtime errors as in the screen shot. I downloaded and installed the update as suggested but I still get the error.
Is there a full version 314 install that I can download? I'm trying to install the 413 then the 314 but I still don't get to the 314 install.

Hi Joe.

At this point, if I were you, I would uninstall SBuilderX with the Windows uninstaller. ( Save any works in progress first, and note the installation folder for reinstallation ).

Then go to the folder where SBuilderX resided, and uninstall the whole folder.

Now you can reinstall a clean copy of SBuilderX313, and give it a go. With all working right, shutdown SBuilderX313.

Using Windows explorer, copy the whole SBuilderX folder and rename the copy as SBuilderX314.

Now you have an original 313, and a copy which you can try to upgrade to 314.

Delete the SBuilder.ini, delete the old SBuilderX exe filebefore the upgrade, to avoid any confusion.

Follow Luis' instructions on upgrading the copy, then run the new SBuilderX314 program. This should insure you have the right version, with the right DLLs.

If the new version works, you could uninstall the old SBuilderX, or leave it sitting in case there are any more issues with the upgrade.

Dick, Thanks ... that got it going. I uninstalled SBuilder313 and found I had another installed. I uninstalled that one by deleting because it wasn't showing in the Control Panel. I re-installed 313 and tested it with FSX running and it worked. Then I installed the 314 update and it runs great. I have background in most of the servers. This used to be my best tool until it quit working.
Thanks again.

Hello!

I 'chatted' with Dick on FSDeveloper thread... suggested I post on here (so I joined!!). So far the methods suggested to get the 64-bit patch update going haven't worked for me. I wondered if there's any chance of trying a full install version of the 64-bit application?? OR suggestions on alternatives?

I've uninstalled, reinstalled 313 a few times. Removed extra copies, tried the patch install numerous times on top of newly installed 313 - many combinations but something I'm probably doing wrong means I can't get it going.

Running Windows 8.1 (includes right version of .NET, I checked). Anything else I should look for?

Many thanks

I GOT IT WORKING (I think). The secret? You must place the copy and then patch install files into the Program Files folder and NOT the Program Files (x86) folder. You probably all already know that already and I missed it earlier. I should also have thought about it before but there it is!

Thanks for all the help, guys. Thanks to you Dick!

IMHO, this raises a question for Luis and Dick:

Are there any legacy 32-bit *.DLLs which are still used for the SBuilderX v3.14 executable from the original 32-bit installation package which may not work properly if that SBuilderX v3.14 executable is installed and run from C:\Program Files (...for 64-bit installs) rather than Program Files (x86) folder ?

And would I be correct that any such legacy 32-bit *.DLLs still used with the SBuilderX v3.14 executable from the original 32-bit installation package may not work properly regardless of what folder location that SBuilderX v3.14 executable is installed to, and/or from which it is run from ?

Thanks for any clarification on this. :)

Hi Gary.

I usually don't install anything to the default C:\Program Files (x86).. heard of too many problems. But if an installer insists, I go along with it.

I copied the whole working SBuilderX314 64-bit to this folder, and it works just fine. As it should. The JIT for .NET programs reads the code, not what folder it's in.

Still can't understand why my 313 would run in Program Files (x86), then when updated to 314 with the patch and kept in Program Files (x86) it would not run but instead when copied to Program Files and updated it would then run. Surely there has to be a reason for that?

There are always the Permissions problems with the standard folders, generally on C:, so I choose to put installs into namesake folders on my E: drive - both Program Files and Program Files (x86).

On a 64-bit Windows OS, isn't there something that would prevent a 64-bit app looking for or finding a 32-bit dll in the Program Files (x86) folder? My understanding is that's part of the idea of having that folder in the first place. If the app is in Program Files (x86), wouldn't it have the same restriction?

Please note - I'm speaking from total ignorance here
